Matchstalk cats and dogs…
Sunday, January 15th, 2012Growing up in Glossop, with weird, folk-loving parents, I never had much contact with popular music. So when, one day, my dad once took me upstairs to the stereo there and introduced me to this song via a old scratchy record, it left quite a lasting impression on me.
This is of course Brian and Michael’s number one hit, Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs.
And parts of Ancoats where I used to play
Now I live in one of the famous cotton mills in Ancoats that Lowry must have walked past and which probably influenced his paintings, I can’t help but be inspired by the “simple man” who once said:
“I am not an artist. I am a man who paints.”

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008I have been spending time recently on the #teenlug IRC channel talking to various interesting people, some of whom, I was slightly surprised to find, were from relatively close to where I live.
One of the people there, LeesyKate by nick, offered to draw a picture of me using the GNU Image Manipulation Program and a one pixel pencil. LeesyKate, by contrast, is not from the North West of England but from Southern Australia, how’s that for international culture!
I think the outcome of the picture pretty good, and having had a go, certainly better than I could do, but you decide for yourself;

Using the same starting photo as a starting point, I decided to see if I could make anything else remotely artistic with it.
In the end, the best I came up with is a pop art interpretation, quickly and unimpressively thrown together, similar to the screen printing project I did for my art GCSE.
