A visit to Carlswark Cavern is like going to see Nickelback.
Just like a Nickleback gig, there’s nothing special about Carlswark the Cavern. Any particularly aesthetically pleasing bits look distinctly faded. Anything “mildly hazardous” is very PG.
And yet, if you close your eyes and pretend you’re somewhere else, you can still enjoy it.
But if you take four friends, suddenly it’s a massive joke. It doesn’t matter that it’s not good in any way, it doesn’t matter that there’s better out there – suddenly it’s (and you don’t quite dare admit this) quite a lot of fun.
Maybe it’s cause one friend won’t stop screaming, the other won’t stop laughing. Maybe it’s cause none of you are taking this seriously anymore. Maybe it’s cause you’re all wondering about your life decisions together. But somehow, you’re enjoying it.
