A weekend at the Treweryn

Spending a weekend at the Treweryn, probably my favourite semi natural river in the UK, felt like a jarring break from Covid times.

Despite having had no practice for at least 6 months, I handled the upper fine and survived a successful boat chase (RIP Tavi’s broken paddle).

Suddenly so many people I knew were stopping to say hi from a distance, waving air hugs and shouting happy words across the river.

Suddenly I was back at Manon’s cafe, watching cafe wave, it all almost felt normal.

Suddenly again, I felt there in the moment. It almost brought me to tears.

There may well be better rivers, with better levels and maybe even better people than the mighty T. But it will always hold a special place for me.
