Last year, Alan, Alison, Jonathan, Dean and Samantha joined me and Nigel Atkins for an “SRT Masterclass”.
It’s fair to say the weather was “pretty minging” – about a P6 on the P scale but we pushed through.
After a joyful warmup, where we focused on remembering everything we’d forgotten about SRT during Covid and did some ascending and descending circuits, Nigel demonstrated some things on his sheltered traverse line.
In the afternoon, we had a go at Rebelays, Deviations and Changeovers before finishing off with a game of “Bad Caver”.
“Bad Caver” involved Nigel doing progressively more unusual methods of descending whilst we were supposed to let him now if he was doing something unsafe and he (fake) mouthed off that it was totally safe cos his uncle’s friend had always done it like this.
Considering the conditions, it went as it could do – and we now need to get more caves sorted at the right level of challenge!
