As Judith said about the Caving Crew trip with Aaron, Matt and me:
“The trip to Giant’s Hole last Thursday was so worth the wait! Tim has held me off from doing Giant’s, because as he said, it’s a round trip with no escape routes if it proved to be too ambitious a trip. And he was right to make me wait!
The trip was wonderful! Now completely within my skills and stamina ! It was wonderful to go in a little apprehensive, thinking it might still be quite a challenge, and come out feeling superb, delighted not to have met anything that was beyond me!
There was the calcite keyhole move within the rift, which lured me into lying on the ‘wrong’ side! So that whilst discovering that that side was a mistake, I was looking straight down into the rift. Just exactly what I try not to do, so as to avoid feeling scared! However, a reversing wriggle got me correctly positioned, and then it really didn’t pose a problem!
Oh, and the Crab Walk was like a dance!
“Right together Right; Twist; Left together Left. Repeated, and repeated.” With occasional “Oh drat” when the dance required a double step on the same side! But really, it’s a fun dance to do. One could even pretend it’s the Egyptian sand dance!
So yes, it is tough Beginners trip. And yes, I did ‘chain eat’ sugared almonds, but that seems better (for me) than the sudden sugar spike that a Mars bar would give me.
So please, apart from wanting to do Giant’s again, so that I can properly enjoy it, not fearing that I’d meet an insurmountable challenge round the next corner!
“What comes next?””
