Caving with a baby - choosing the right trip

If you’re caving with a baby, you must make sure the trip is appropriate.

This is common sense – a bit like saying “when selecting drinks for your baby, don’t choose absinthe”, but some people on the internet seem to think that all caves are like absinthe.

Just like we start babies on water or milk, we don’t start them caving at the absinthe end of the scale.

However, this can create a conundrum – what is interesting for experienced cavers *and* suitable for babies?

The answer is self-mixed Baileys.

Not literally. I personally call this cocktail Great Douk.

“Great Douk?!”, I hear the experienced cavers scoff (and I thought the same!).

But for the baby, Great Douk (without the through trip) is great, and well within scope.

And the experienced cavers who are looking for a challenge? See the final photos. James (and I) did NOT do this optional loop, but we did laugh a lot at the new swearwords we learnt, which was excellent fun.

oh, and how did James rate it? He fell asleep on my front for most of the trip.
