Last year, Charlotte, Jane, Mark, Kirsty and Jonathan joined me and Nigel Atkins for an introduction into SRT.
Where there are vertical bits in caves, we tend to use ropes as “paths” and travel up, down (and sometimes, along). This set of skills called SRT (Single Rope Techniques) takes a bit of times to learn and find your own way with.
We started the day with looking at what an SRT kit is made up of and what different parts are for.
We looked at protecting the top of a pitch with a traverse line and descending a rope.
After a sumptuous lunch surrounded by drumkits, we rose and focused on ascent.
We came away with some people keen for SRT experience in caves and real caving… but that’s another story!
