Every Thursday the Climbing Clan meets

Every Thursday, “The Climbing Clan” has been heading outside in small groups to crags around Manchester and in the Peak for outdoor climbing.

Recently, with a record number of people signing up from Chesterfield, Sheffield, Bakewell, we decided to run something further east than ever before and climbed the grit at Stanage.

Laura lead one of her first trad routes – independently placing gear, enjoying a section of caving and building a safe belay. This was a nice relaxing climb compared to an earlier second.˜„‘Œ

Hattie channelled The Climbing Clan tradition, and joined more-than-a-few who have done a significant early lead climbing in the dark by head torch. Hattie placed a safe amount of gear on her first VDiff – Anatomy and managed to belay me up safely.‘˜Ž

Jae lead Gargoyle Variant – a gnarly HS 4b that had our strongest seconds commenting on what an impressive lead it was. ˜…˜²’ª

Rachel seconded Blackhawk Traverse Left – a VDiff that is as much a maze and puzzle as it is a climb and made Physiology look easier than its leader.’˜º˜„‘

Harry pushed himself on Blackhawk Hellcrack on second and brought the most impressive biscuit selection I have ever seen on a Thursday evening ˜˜‹

Vikki arrived earliest, carried the most gear up the hill, and lead the least – but in support of other people’s climbs. Notably supporting other people leading and helping the Clan feel confidence in their skills. ©™Œ

Aaron flew up Hellcrack, Blackhawk Traverse Left and Physiology on second, making them look annoyingly straightforward – at least from the point of view of people who’d recently struggled up them. A powerhouse in the making!˜˜Ž•

Oana seconded Physiology VDiff and removed all the gear and made light work of the other top ropes on her first Climbing Clan outdoor evening.˜§—’€’™€˜Š

Munky lead Physiology VDiff – a return to leading after a while away from the rock before seconding Gargoyle Variant to put hair on his chest or muscles in arms! ˜„˜¯’ª

Thanks to everyone for channelling the supportive encouragement and skill sharing that the Clan is built on. What a wonderful evening! ’›’™’š
