I’d never been to Masson Lees Quarry, but I’d heard a lot of stories.
Endless sport climbing. Achievable Routes. South Peak Limestone.
So when Rebs and Naomi invited me for a quick route, I… thought it’d be worth a go!
Unfortunately, some Caving friends had very rudely decided to park in the same car parking area, so it seemed appropriate to greet them as is traditional in that sport – with playful pranks.
Returning to find my fake parking ticket returned to my van windscreen with “wanker” written on it, noted a great success that they had managed to find their way out of the cave and back to their cars.
Oh and the sport climbing? yes. It’s very sporty. Quite climby. Apparently moderately clippy. Brilliantly bolty I’m told.
I feel like I was not put on earth to judge the quality of sport climbing venues but I can definitely confirm Masson Lees Quarry is one.
If Sport Climbing is your strawberry-flavour marmalade – give it a go sometime.
Thanks again to my fellow belayers, lead climbers and sharpie enthusiasts!
