Watching Kim and Antonio make the most of the good weather and watch over them as they practiced their trad climbing was a sight to see.
An important final step before setting newbie trad free to lead single pitch routes in their own – watching them as they independently place gear and build belays.
Occasionally maybe comments like “what do you think about the direction of fall?” may be appropriate but often I’m just watching.
It doesn’t matter if someone does something wrong – so long as they catch it and self correct – so a lot of what I end up passing on to people about belays ends up being about self checking IDEAS in a methodical way.
These two both did great, and Kim memorably lead Mississippi Crack (S) whilst Antonio lead Wall Climb (HVD).
A great finale for them both! ª
