Some time ago, Matt and me got out to Wildboar Clough.
We managed to climb the whole thing. It turns out the first pitch is probably the most awkward, and that although it looks intimidating ahead, it isn’t too bad.
One highlight was when Matt managed to get a whole 22cm ice screw in.
Another was some extremely satisfying axe placements
And yet another was some pleasant scrambling after the main event.
The wind was fairly brutal at times, and at one point, I managed to count the number of layers I was wearing:
‘¡ six on my torso
‘¡ three on my legs (not counting boxers)
‘¡ three on my feet (including boots)
‘¡ three on my hands
‘¡ three on my head (including helmet)
‘¡ one across most of my face (not enough at times!)
After a ferocious descent, we returned to the cars feeling like local days socially distanced exercise couldn’t get much better than this!
Thanks to Matt for leading the scary bits, and Meg @fralanasko for lending the technical axes.
