New things often feel scary

New things often feel scary. When you try something new for the first time, it can help you remember what it was like to be new to the things you know well.

So when you let yourself be taken out of your comfort zone, away from the activities and sports you know well, you can remind yourself what it feels like to be scared of the tiniest of things.

Here, you can see a range – from “I’m aight with this” and “I’m ok” to my “waaaahhhhhh I’m just about managing ˜…” It seems ridiculous to suggest that I feel scared about being a metre off the ground if you take a rational perspective, but fear doesn’t always work in rational ways.

And that’s something worth remembering next time you try and use the facts to convince a scares newbie that your activity is safe. It’s normal to be scared, even when things are perfectly risk-controlled.

Thanks again to Rebs and Celia for getting me doing this. I might not look like I appreciated it, but I did!
