Swimming in an icy lake near Aviemore

“My dream is to swim in an icy-lake” is something I don’t think I’ve ever said.

But as we were driving past Aviemore, Ellen (who is not used to snow) mentioned she wanted to.

A gleaming opportunity presented itself.

Most people would dip their toes in, contemplate their life choices and choose tea rooms over an ice bath. Or maybe that’s just me.

Ellen dipped her toes in… and then went off to get changed.

As she walked in, the ice clinked around her thighs, and the landscape itself shrieked as it got deeper.

And then it stopped.

No matter how far she walked, the lake stayed about waist deep, never really deep enough for swimming! ˜…

After a disappointing dunk, she walked back to the van, feeling slightly let down by the lake. “I don’t feel I’ve done it, I didn’t swim in it.” So the dream is still a dream and the icy lakes remain unconquered.
