On the August Climbing Clan weekend trip. It didn’t just rain. It poured.
The big bois went off to Malham to clip 7a’s in the dry, whilst we considered plan b, c, d, e, f and g. After just about discarding plan d (drinking), we decided on plan c (caving) and specifically plan g (Gaping Gill). Gaping Gill is the largest unbroken waterfall in the UK – a cathedral size chamber in the limestone under Yorkshire.
Twice a year, local caving clubs set up public access via a petrol winch – and so off we went to pay our money and go deep down under.
Alex, our Climbing Clan cave expert, took us on a little adventurey trip outside the main chamber before we headed back out and down the hill.
Definitely a place best seen than described. My photos do not do it justice at all.
A good day from the ‘North Manchester’ crew in climbing clan!
