Before I arrived, I’ve got to admit, I was nervous.
Would SWWK in a group of 40 work? Would it be a massive faff-fest? Would people be friendly?
I shouldn’t have doubted.
Jamie made sure we kept running, it was one of the most on-time, effective, self organising groups I’ve ever seen and everyone – at all skill levels seemed really up for paddling.
Jamie presided over everything, Dan brought his silent disco, Ronnie helped with boat transport, Danger encouraged me down some mildly munchy moments.
When I needed help with a spare wheel, Rich was there to offer tools and moral support. When I needed a lift, Alex happily offered his van!
When we needed someone to get Jamie a beer, there was Angus. If we needed someone to say thank you to whilst someone claimed they’d done “nothing”, Cliff wasn’t far away!
Of course my paddling pals Eleanor and Michelle were there in force (or at least as a pair and paddling hard). There are almost too many fantastic people to mention, Nick, Andy, Kim, Dave, Abi, Wayne… the list goes on.
I guess what I’d say is that if you’re wondering whether you should go on a Slightly WhiteWater Kayaking weekend… Just say yes and put your name down!
Oh, and a personal highlight: battle rolling mid-rapid at Tees Barrage. Yaas ªª
