A Wednesday last autumn with Sarah

A Wednesday and a bit ago last autumn, Sam, Matthew, Becky, Jane and me headed to a south peak area mine for midweek mooch.

This time we saw the mine in a totally different light – and that’s not a cheesy joke about head torches.

I’ve visited this mine a lot, but for Matthew, Becky and Jane, this was the first time and for Sam the second time.

Matt is professionally a Geologist, with expertise specifically in mining. “Don’t tell anyone” he chided me, “they’ll think it’s all boring”.

Within 10 minutes of entering the mine, Matt was pointing out minerals, explaining the strata and having rocks thrown at him to explain. At one point I had to speed up the trip to make sure we got the caving done and didn’t get bogged down in the Geology £

Some other memorable moments:
ŒSamantha breezing through the banana slide climbs and encouraging Jane and Becky through them
˜²Becky’s eyes of trepidation when she realised “the hole of doom” was the way on
˜…Matthew’s almost-twarted-by-kneepads attempt to climb up the hole of doom
˜†Samantha’s misplaced boulder!
”Matthew found a chamber I’d never visited before

For a gentle trip that is often a great explore for people new to caving, it was full of new things and different perspectives!

Who wants to come on a trip here?
