Whilst walking down Wetherlam, mum and me came across this incredibly echoy adit. With a friendly mining expert and an experienced caver waiting at the entrance we went for an explore.
To my surprise, it was the safest mine I’ve ever been in. No timber props, no workings, no shafts (up or down) and walking height passage throughout.
The passages ended blind after about 300m(?) with evidence of mineralisation, but without hitting any veins.
I think later this year we’re planning to come back to this area (though probably not this adit) well equipped to look at some of the more interesting and extensive nearby levels.
