When I heard Kim hadn’t done Tryfan, and remembered I hadn’t done this favourite minimountain for at least a year, I suggested a trip.
Kim was going backpacking afterwards, I was headed to South Wales, it was perfect timing.
In the second wettest conditions I’ve done it in, we headed up the North ridge, taking in my “standard” set of obstacles at about grade 2, occasionally 2.5.
We took the gully of doom on the east due to the wetness and summitted in really good time.
For me, the first 1/4 reminded me how unfit I felt, and the final 3/4 felt absolutely fine. In other words – a standard day on Tryfan. This has been my experience almost every time I’ve done this classic route.
We headed down to Ogwen Cottage. A fun little above ground “caving” trip in the light!
