Learning in the Alps thanks to the Conville Trust

Thanks to the Conville Trust, I was in the Alps to learn.

Tamsin and Matt were our long suffering question-answerers, chaffuers and water bottle fillers ˜…

Glaciers are hazard in the Alps, so we learnt how to cross them safely and how to rescue a teammate from a crevasse if they dropped in for a dangle.

We learnt about short roping, moving together and using natural features to quickly protect exposed moves.

We had a go building Belays and v-threads on the glacier, we played ice-axe belays and crampon stomping on the snow.

One memorable moment was being encouraged to put my hands on my knees and take some small jumps down a small icy slope to build confidence in my crampons.

My Cha-Cha Slide on ice is now much improved.•º I’m grateful to Matt and Tamsin to the skills, support and endless patience when I asked “why” yet again ˜‚
