My third day(?) ever where I lead trad was in 2017 at Stanage Edge. One Sunday ago, I ‘accidentally’ repeated one of the routes I climbed that day.
Back then I’d have been hesitant, nervous, taking ages to place gear and longer to build belays.
This time, the route felt like great fun. It was interesting, had loads of gear, fantastic anchor options, amazing weather, great belayers. It was just a load of fun. (“Anatomy” VD).
One thing I hadn’t learnt yet back then, is the wide difference between climbs of the same grade. Rebs lead the identically graded “Physiology” (VD), and I was so glad I hadn’t lead it! It felt hugely different in character and style and availability of holds!
Thanks again to Rebs and Naomi for the belays, encouragement and fun – what a lovely day!
