Sometimes the best solutions feel like yours

Sometimes, the best solutions are the ones that feel like you wouldn’t like them. Case in point: playgroups.

After dipping my toe in with a dad group, I decided to brave a local stay-and-play with James. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as I’d built it up to be in my head.

So we went again. And again. And again. Turns out, when you show up regularly, you start to get to know people – both the big ones and the little ones. Who knew?

I set up a WhatsApp group for our local stay-and-play. It’s become this unexpected lifeline, connecting parents who are all in the same sleep-deprived, mess-covered boat.

For anyone local, we meet every Thursday at Inside Out Nursery in New Mills, Peak District from 9:30 – 11am. It’s free (including parking, drinks, and snacks). And yes, that’s an open invitation – we’d love to see you there!

I’ve made it my mission to ensure it’s a supportive, welcoming space for everyone. Because here’s the thing: when you become a parent, you often lose your sense of community. These groups? They can help rebuild that.

So if you’re new to this whole parenting gig, I challenge you to find a local meet-up. Go regularly. Get to know people. It might feel daunting at first, but trust me – the difference it can make is surprising.

Remember: every parent you see there once walked in for the first time, probably feeling just as nervous as you go say hi to them, they’ll appreciate the friendly face.
